The first live NBA game of the weekend arrives on the morning of Friday 25 February, as California giants Los Angeles Lakers and Golden State Warriors meet at the Crypto.com Arena (05:00 LIVE on ESPN 2).
Warriors star Draymond Green has urged his team to stick to the basics when it comes to closing out games that they find themselves ahead in: “I think when we get down the stretch we stop doing the things that worked. When you have something that works all game long you don’t go away from it.”
The morning of Saturday 25 February is headlined by a classic Eastern Conference rivalry, as the Chicago Bulls host the Brooklyn Nets (05:00 LIVE on ESPN 2).
Nets coach Jacque Vaughn has urged his players to show resilience in the face of adversity: “You show up and do the work,” Vaughn said. “People gonna praise you, you show up and do the work. [People] are gonna criticise, show up and do the work. People might not even notice you—show up and do the work. And that’s what this group has to do.”
The evening of the same day then features the Toronto Raptors visiting the Detroit Pistons (19:00 LIVE on ESPN).
Toronto’s Pascal Siakim wants to see his team “valuing every possession”: “Understanding the magnitude of every possession for a full 48 minutes, but especially down the stretch. When it comes down to it, we’ve got to be able to rebound the basketball and not allow teams to get second chances.”
The evening of Sunday 26 February brings a battle between the Milwaukee Bucks and the Phoenix Suns from the Fiserv Forum (20:00 LIVE on ESPN).
Bucks coach Mike Budenholzer is well aware that star man Giannis Antetokounmpo will be targeted: “[The opponent will] throw a lot of people at him, a lot of bodies,” Budenholzer explained. “He’s got to be willing to pass and play with his teammates, and we’ve got to make shots. I think he did that. It starts with him being aggressive, him drawing extra defenders. His teammates have got to make plays around him.”
