Butambala Court Grants Bail to Two Minors in Muwanga Kivumbi Election Violence Case

The Butambala Magistrate’s Court has granted bail to two minors among the 25 people charged in connection with the violent incident at the home of former MP Muwanga Kivumbi during the January 16, 2026, elections.

The minors, identified as Wilson Muyinda and Paul Mawanda, had spent an entire school term on remand after their arrest following the incident in which seven people were shot dead.

In granting bail on Wednesday, the court observed that the two are below 18 years of age and therefore cannot be detained in adult prison facilities.

Each minor was released on a non-cash bail of Shs10 million, with sureties also bonded at the same amount.

The two accused are required to return to court on April 28, 2026, as the case continues.

The incident, which occurred at Muwanga Kivumbi’s residence on election day, remains one of the most serious cases of electoral violence recorded during the 2026 general elections.
