The High Court has ruled that Christopher Okello Onyum has a case to answer over the murder of four toddlers at the Ggaba Early Childhood Development Centre.
Justice Alice Komuhangi Khaukha, who is presiding over a special mobile court session at Ggaba Community Church, determined that the prosecution had established a prima facie case against the accused.
The ruling comes after a two-week trial in which 17 witnesses, including grieving parents and forensic experts, presented a detailed and disturbing timeline of the April 2 killings.
“Based on the evidence adduced by the prosecution, I find that you have a case to answer,” Justice Komuhangi Khaukha told the suspect, effectively concluding the first phase of a trial that has shocked the nation.
The prosecution team, led by Chief State Attorneys Jonathan Muwaganya and Anna Kiiza, meticulously reconstructed the final moments of the four young victims: Ryan Odeke, Keisha Agenorwoth Otim, Gideon Eteku, and Ignatius Sseruyange.
Witnesses testified that the suspect allegedly posed as a parent to gain access to the daycare centre before carrying out a frenzied knife attack on the children.
With the court now satisfied that a case has been established, the burden of proof shifts to the defence.
