Kitatta Not Suspect in Ekalungar Murder – Police

Police has revealed at Boda boda 2010 leader Abdul Kitatta is not a suspect in the murder of Case Clinic account Francis Ekalugar.

Ekalungar was kidnaped and later murdered on Tuesday 2 Jan 2018. Police later found his body burnt and dumped in Kajjansi.

Abdul Kitatta, his bother Huzairu Kiwalabye and tens of other suspects many of whom are from his Boda Boda 2010 were arrested in a joint operation by Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence (CMI) and the Internal Security Organization (ISO) a week ago over the deceased’s murder and a series of other crimes in Kampala.

Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) Spokesperson Lt Col Deo Akiiki revealed on Saturday that 18 of these suspects had been released but 22 others including Abdul kitatta and his brother Huzairu were still in Custody.

While speaking to journalists at the weekly Police Press Briefing on Monday, Police Spokesperson Emilian Kayima revealed that that police had eight suspects in Ekalungar’s murder but Kitatta was not among them.

“The case file has been worked on, duly submitted to the DDP (Director of Public Prosecution) for perusal and then we shall be guided on the next course of action,” said Kayima.

“I will even go ahead to tell you the names of those we have on this file hoping that this doesnot compromise the investigation,” Kayima said.

The names involved are; Mawa Muzamiru (driver to Dr.Ssebbale Kato, the proprietor of Case hospital), Nalunga Resty Goretti, Kiwalabye Huzairu (Kitatta’s brother), Yiga Deo, two Case Clinic guards Mulema Hamza and Chandir Vicent, and two Congolese nationals suspected to be refugees Kikandi Muhindo and  Bizimani David from whose residence, Ekalungar’s vehicle, a silver Toyota Premio was recovered.

According to the police mouthpiece, the preferred cases against the suspects are murder and aggravated robbery.

On Kitatta and the members Boda Boda 2010, Kayima revealed that Police has received cases from members of the public who were allegedly tormented by the group.

“The position we took as police was to identify the cases against Boda Boda 2010 and call all the files to the Kampala Metropolitan Police headquarters. Some of these cases have been concluded and sentences delivered, some are ongoing in court and others were settled out of court,” Kayima explained.
