Zakayo, Uganda’s oldest chimpanzee is dead.
Zakayo passed away at Uganda Wildlife Education Centre (UWEC) formerly Entebbe Zoo on Thursday April 26 at the age of 54.
Preliminary findings from UWEC suggest that Zakayo succumbed to Chronic Gastroenteritis also known as stomach flu (an intestinal infection characterized by diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and fever).
Due to his old age, he is said to have been highly susceptible to opportunistic infections.
Zakayo had lived at UWEC for 42 years.
Zakayo’s vigil has been scheduled for Friday April 27, 2018 at UWEC Beach starting at 6pm and the Burial will be held on Saturday 28.04.2018 at 2pm.
