Africell Customers Can Now Buy Airtime, Data from MTN Agents; Here is How

Africell has unveiled a special top-up option for airtime and data bundles from any MTN Mobile money agent countrywide.

The solution was announced on Tuesday August 6th at a Press Conference held at Mestil Hotel in the capital Kampala.

Commenting about the solution, Alex Wekoye, Sales and Commercial Director Africell said the top-up option for Africell from the MTN mobile money agents is a band-aid to narrow the distance between the company (Africell) and its subscribers country wide.

He said that this is an addition to banks like Stanbic, DFCU which enable Africell customers to purchase airtime and data bundles from their mobile banking platforms and AtMs.

“MTN mobile money top-ups across the country will enable Africell customers buy airtime and data of all denominations and the service is going to be a real time transaction with no delays. This service is only available with your mobile money agent not you as a customer,” Wekoye further added.

Speaking on behalf of MTN, Christopher Sali said “this is not a merger but a collaborative approach with Africell to bring convenience and better service and experience to customers of both players in the telecommunications industry.”

How to Load Africell Airtime from MTN Mobile Money Agent.

Step 1:
An Africell customer visits any MTN Mobile Money agent and requests for the service (either to top up airtime or buy a data or social media bundle)

Step 2:
The MTN Mobile Money Agent will ask and the Africell customer will share/confirm their number with the agent.

Step 3:
The Africell customer will pay (in cash) to the MTN Mobile Money Agent, the equivalent of the airtime or bundle they have requested for.

Step 4:
The MTN Mobile Money Agent will initiate and confirm with the customer (the number and the value of airtime or bundle they’re purchasing).
Step 5: The transaction is now finalized.
