DP President Nobert Mao on the Spot Over Party Funds

A section of Members of the Democratic Party (DP) are not pleased with how the party leadership is doing business. The disgruntled members led by whip Joseph Gonzaga expressed dissatisfaction with the manner in which the party is conducting the leadership renewal and irregular use of party funds by Nobert Mao.

Gonzaga and 14 other members accuse Mao’s leadership of failing to undertake the process of leadership following the party constitution. Addressing the press the disgruntled members said Mao’s leadership has failed to avail party cards and village registers. But instead, some individuals at the party headquarters are distributing personally sanctioned party registers which is not in sync with the party procedures. The party cards being distributed are said to be lacking serial numbers.

“Mao should explain the party confusion in the issuance of party cards and distribution of party cards,” Sewungu told the press.

He said the party receives sh370M from the Electoral Commission every quarter, but the party leadership claims there are no funds to print cards and registers.

“The party should without further delay avail funds to the office of party organizing secretary to enable him to carry out his duties,” Sewungu added.

He went to suggest that the Inspectorate of Government should launch an investigation into the misuse of party funds.
