RwandAir CEO Fired

Rwanda’s President Paul Kagame on Wednesday chaired a cabinet meeting that relieved John Mirenge of his duties as the chief executive officer of national carrier RwandAir.

Mirenge was replaced with Col Chance Ndagano, who is also the vice chairperson of the Rwanda Civil Aviation Authority (RCAA) board.

Lt Col Sylvere Munyaneza was appointed the airline’s deputy CEO in charge of operations, replacing Jean Paul Nyirubutama, who was appointed as a member to the airline’s board.

Makolo Manzi Yvonne takes over as Deputy Corporate Affairs boss.

Mirenge has headed the airline since 2010 and will be remembered for his expansionist plans, with RwandAir making its maiden flight to Mumbai, India only recently, and also announcing a route to Harare, Zimbabwe.
