MP Zaake Allowed to Seek Treatment Before Trial

Mityana Municipality Member of Parliament Francis Zaake is not in good shape. His friends in the opposition allege that he was tortured by the security forces after being arrested last week. Robert Kyagulanyi (Bobi Wine) the leader of the People Power Movement is one person who says Zaake was tortured.

The Police, however, denied the claims saying that he is in a stable condition. It was a different reality today when Zaake was brought before Mityana Magistrate Elias Kakooza for trial on charges of attempted murder.

According to Kakooza’z judgment Zaake could not stand for trial. The MP could not stand on his two legs, neither could he see clearly.

Kakooza, therefore, cleared Zaake to seek medical attention before his case is heard.

Zaake is said to have been found distributing food to his constituents in Mityana, which is against the President’s directive on Covid19.

The President warned politicians against distributing food saying that anyone caught doing so would be arrested and charged with attempted murder. The decision was informed by fears that people would gather in the scramble for food.

The government established a task force in charge of distributing food, and people were asked to donate food through the taskforce.

Zaake has been receiving treatment at Iran Medical Hospital. It is said he has been taken to Nsambya.
