Covid19: Govt to Carry Out Mass Testing

As plans to lift the lockdown are underway, the Ministry of Health Dr Ruth Aceng has announced that she has dispatched a team of officers to carry out a mass testing exercise targeting 2,000 people.

“As you are all aware that of the confirmed cases in Uganda, nearly 23 of them are truck drivers from Tanzania and Kenya. Within the country, we have not been getting positive cases and we draw close to the lockdown, we need to get vital information that will form part of the decisions for lifting the lockdown,” Aceng said.

“It is, therefore, becomes extremely important that we carry out a survey basing on certain groups that are vulnerable to Covvid-19.”

The survey will target truck drivers and communities along the routes, border crossings and their communities, health workers, market vendors, weight bridge areas, religious leaders, police officers, LDUS, UPDF.

The survey is aimed at helping the Ministry ascertain whether the government has been able to weed out the virus from the communities. If that turns out to be that case, the Ministry will put her efforts on borders and other areas of worry.

Uganda currently has 79 cases of coronavirus and 52 recoveries. Zero deaths.
