Sheikh Shaban Mubajje Ramathan, Mufti of Uganda, has appealed to government to re-open places of worship noting that they are also essential in the period of Covid-19 pandemic.

“Why can’t also houses of Worship be allowed to re-open and we put in place special operating procedures (SOPs) for guidance. prayers are among essential activities this country needs,” Mubajje said.

The Mufti made these remarks on Sunday May,24 while celebrating the Eid-El-fitri day at the headquarters of Uganda Muslim Council in Old Kampala.

Sheikh Mubajje also wondered why worship places can not be allowed to re-open yet private means have been allowed to re-open.

Similarly, Sheikh Mubajje challenged the government to put a waiver on water and electricity bills for Ugandans. Mubajje cited that the Ugandans are locked down at their homes and are currently not working.

President Museveni halted the activities of worship places on March 18, in a bid to stem the spread of the novel coronavirus disease in Uganda.
