President Yoweri Museveni has ordered the eviction of all businesses in Centenary park and the handover of the land to the Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA).
According to a letter by KCCA Executive Director Dorothy Kisaka to Nalongo Estates, the company that manages the property, Museveni ordered that the land be given to UNRA immediately so that works on the Jinja Expressway can start.
“His Excellency the President directed that the land surveyed and demarcated at Centenary Park for the Jinja Expressway should be immediately handed over to the Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) to enable the commencement of work,” Ms Kisaka’s letter reads in part.
Ms Kisaka also informed the commander of Kampala Metropolitan Police to deploy officers at the site to ensure a peaceful handover.
The land has been under the management of Sarah Kizito, the owner of Nalongo Estates.
