Govt Extends Sim Card Verification Deadline

Prime Minister Dr Ruhakana Rugunda has directed Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) to extend the sim-card verification exercise for one month.

In an April 19  letter addressed to UCC executive director Godfrey Mutabazi, Rugunda wrote: “The government has reviewed the said timelines and taken a decision that the ongoing Sim card verification exercise should be extended to the 19th of May, 2017.”

The exercise which was due to end on April 19 has now been extended to May 19.

On April 11, UCC issued a directive that all Ugandans should re-register their sim-cards using their national Identification cards.
