Prime Minister Dr Ruhakana Rugunda has directed Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) to extend the sim-card verification exercise for one month.

In an April 19  letter addressed to UCC executive director Godfrey Mutabazi, Rugunda wrote: “The government has reviewed the said timelines and taken a decision that the ongoing Sim card verification exercise should be extended to the 19^th of May, 2017.”

The exercise which was due to end on April 19 has now been extended to May 19.

On April 11, UCC issued a directive that all Ugandans should re-register their sim-cards using their national Identification cards.
