First Batch of Covid19 Vaccines Arrives in Uganda, Frontline Workers to Benefit

The first batch of Covid 19 vaccine has arrived in Uganda.

The batch which includes 864,000 doses of AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine arrived at Entebbe airport aboard Emirates Airlines on Friday March 5th 2020.

According to Health Minister Jane Ruth Aceng, the vaccines will be administered to frontline workers including the security personnel, frontline health workers and teachers in different institutions of learning.

“The launch of the vaccination has been moved to 10th March and not 8th March as had been communicated earlier because Monday is a public holiday,” Aceng said.

The vaccines were manufactured by the Serum Institute of India and shipped via the COVAX facility.

Minister Aceng revealed that health workers will be vaccinated between 10th March to 15th March after which other frontline workers will be considered.
