Bukedea District Woman Member of Parliament Anita Annet Among has been voted as the National Resistance Movement – NRM flag bearer in the Parliamentary Deputy Speakership race.
Among was handed the flag of the ruling party following a vote by the NRM caucus where she beat competition from two other party members including Ruhinda North County MP Thomas Bangirana Tayebwa and Gomba West MP Robinah Gureme Rwakoojo.
Preliminary reports indicate that Among polled 168 votes beating Tayebwa who came second with 149 votes.
Rwakoojo came in a distant third with only 10 votes.
The Tower Post understands that Tayebwa was aggrieved and hinted at a possibility of running as an independent, following the path of former Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga.
Elections for both speaker and deputy speaker of parliament will be held tomorrow at Kololo independence grounds which will also be the first sitting of the 11th parliament.
