Speaker Oulanyah to Preside Over ‘Makerere At 100’ Stakeholders’ Mobilization Event

Speaker of Parliament Jacob Oulanyah is set to preside over a stakeholders’ mobilization event in preparation for the commemoration of Makerere University’s 100th anniversary.

Oulanyah who is also a Makerere University alumnus will preside over the event, which will also feature a round-table discussion with other prominent Makerere University Alumni, on the subject of centenary celebrations.

According to information from University officials, the centenary celebrations will go on throughout the year 2022 under the theme “Leveraging 100 years of Excellence in Building a Transformed Society.”

The stakeholders’ mobilization event which is slated for Thursday November 25th will be the first of the many events that the University will hold in commemoration of their 100 years of building for the future. It will be held at the University’s Freedon Square.

Established in 1922 with only 14 students, Makerere University has over the 100 years grown to become one of the leading Universities in the world.

With over 300,000 alumni spread across the globe, the university is celebrating a remarkable journey of touching lives, training and nurturing human resources in different fields/disciplines, and making the world a better place through significant contributions to human and social transformation.

Commenting about the milestone, Makerere University Vice-Chancellor, Professor Barnabas Nawangwe applauded stakeholders for supporting the University over the years and called upon them to take a keen interest in the celebrations.

“We want to mark 100 years of excellence with all our stakeholders. In the days ahead we will reach out to the broader University community of students, staff, alumni, development partners both nationally and internationally, and well-wishers for their participation in the centennial celebrations,” Prof Nawangwe said.

Rt. Hon. Daniel Kidega, the Chairperson Organizing Committee for the centenary celebrations said, “starting with the stakeholders event, we will discuss and showcase Makerere’s past successes, the present opportunities, and prospects. We urge you to provide whatever support you can to make the planned events and activities a resounding success.”
