Controversial novelist Kakwenza Rukirabashaija has Tuesday been arraigned in court and charged with two counts of offensive communication, The Tower Post reports.
Kakwenza, 33, who has been under police custody since his arrest late last year was arraigned before Buganda Road Magistrate’s court on Tuesday morning.
He is charged with disturbing the peace of President Museveni and that of UPDF Land Forces Commander Gen Muhoozi Keinerugaba.
“Kakwenza, on 24th December 2021 in Kampala District willfully and repeatedly used his twitter handle @KakwenzaRukira to disturb the peace of His Excellency the President of Uganda Gen Yoweri Kaguta Museveni with no purpose of legitimate communication,” part of the charge sheet seen by this website reads.
The sheet further states that between 26th and 28th December, Kakwenza used his Twitter handle to “disturb the peace of Lt Gen Muhoozi Keinerugaba with no purpose of legitimate communication.”
Court remanded kakwenza to Kitalya government prison until January 21st when he is expected to appear again in court.
The development comes at the backdrop of pressure from CSOs, development partners and a number of international players demanding that the writer is produced before court.
