Following recent reports of Ebola outbreak in Likati Health Zone, Bas Uele Province in the north eastern part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Rwanda’s health ministry has started screening passengers for temperature at her border posts with the DR Congo in Rubavu and Rusizi districts.

A statement by the health ministry indicates that the screening will be done by non-contact infrared laser thermometers and all passengers with fever will be barred from entering Rwanda.

Also, passengers that have been to DR Congo’s affected areas in the last 22 days are not allowed to fly to Rwanda.

“In readiness to detect any Ebola cases, the Kigali International Airport will continue the fever screening using a heat scan machine which is also in compliance to the international standards,” the statement added.

No case of Ebola has been detected and the measures are only preventive, the ministry clarified.
