MTN Uganda Contributes Shs 247M Towards Bunyoro Kingdom Bicycle Races and Enganda Football Tournament

MTN Uganda, in partnership with Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom, yesterday launched the MTN County Bicycle Races and the Enganda Football Tournament at the Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom Headquarters. These highly anticipated calendar events aim at fostering cultural preservation and social-economic transformation within the Kingdom.

This year, MTN Uganda has contributed Ushs. 247 million towards supporting both the bicycle races and the football tournament, reaffirming its long-standing partnership with the Kingdom. The County Bicycle Races and the Enganda Football Tournament will be held across the 15 counties of Bunyoro Kitara, engaging local communities through healthy competition and promoting unity while rewarding outstanding participants.

Speaking at the launch event, Abel Mwesigye, MTN Uganda’s Regional Business Manager, emphasized the importance of this partnership.

“MTN Uganda takes great pride in being a trusted partner to the Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom. This year’s investment demonstrates our commitment to promoting talent, unity, and community development. By supporting sports, we are not only celebrating our cultural heritage but also empowering young people to participate in activities that can boost the local economy,” Mwesigye said.

The MTN County Bicycle Races will include both men’s and women’s categories, while the Enganda Football Tournament will feature male participants from all the clans, competing to showcase their skills. These events will help promote the values of unity, resilience, and healthy competition within the Kingdom.

“Sports has always been a great connector, bringing people together from all walks of life,” Mwesigye added. “We believe these events will strengthen bonds within and between communities, symbolizing our journey together towards shared growth and development.”

Andrew Byakutaga Ateenyi, The Prime Minister of Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom praised the collaboration, saying: “Our partnership with MTN Uganda reflects our shared vision of uplifting the Bunyoro Kitara people through the preservation of our cultural heritage and the empowerment of our youth. These events are not only a celebration of sports but also a powerful tool for social-economic transformation.”

MTN Uganda’s partnership with Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom goes beyond sports. Over the years, MTN has supported various initiatives that have improved access to health and education services, as well as contributed to environmental conservation in the region. The launch of these tournaments is yet another step towards enhancing the lives of the people of Bunyoro Kitara.

The football and bicycle competitions symbolize a future of unity, where cultural heritage is preserved while driving social and economic transformation hinged on the belief that Together, we’re unstoppable.
