Katikkiro of Buganda Mourns Kalangala Woman MP Helen Nakimuli

The Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga, has expressed deep sorrow over the sudden death of Kalangala District Woman Member of Parliament, Helen Nakimuli.

Speaking on Monday, Mayiga said he last saw Nakimuli just days ago at St. Nicholas Orthodox Cathedral in Namungoona during thanksgiving prayers for Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II’s 71st birthday on April 13.

“We are saddened by the death of Hellen Nakimuli, whom we were with at Namungoona cathedral on April 13 during prayers for the Kabaka’s birthday,” he said.

The Katikkiro described Nakimuli as a dedicated and active leader who worked diligently for her constituents while also supporting Buganda Kingdom affairs.

“She has been very active in Buganda affairs and has performed her duties as MP well,” Mayiga added.

He extended condolences to her family — especially her father, Rev. Fr. Christopher Walusimbi — the people of the Ssese Islands, the Orthodox Church, and the National Unity Platform (NUP), describing her as a promising young leader.

Nakimuli, who was 40 years old, passed away on Sunday evening at Alexandria Hospital after undergoing what was described as a minor surgical procedure.

According to her aide, Farouk Muwonge, she had driven herself to the hospital.

Although the surgery was reportedly successful, she did not regain consciousness and could not be revived from the coma.
