A video reportedly showing a meeting between Vision Group CEO Robert Kabushenga and city lawyer David Mpanga at Kampala’s Silk Liquid has raised more dust as the public debates the case between the central bank and tycoon Sudhir Ruparelia.
Bank of Uganda (BoU) has dragged Sudhir to the Commercial Court accusing him of sinking Crane Bank by fraudulently siphoning billions out of the financial institution.
Now Mpanga, one of the BoU lawyers in the case, is, according to the video, shown meeting Kabushenga to reportedly sink Sudhir.
Mpanga reportedly participated in the investigations into Crane Bank operations that would later see the bank placed under receivership and consequently taken over by DFCU.
The video does not reveal much of the conversation but social media has been awash with claims that Mpanga was reportedly feeding Kabushenga on information that was uncovered in the forensic investigation the lawyer was part of.
Sudhir is apparently Kabushenga’s ‘friend’ and social media thinks the latter should not be sitting with a man who probed (and is a lawyer of BoU) the former, especially at a time when there is a court battle that could see the tycoon being forced to pay lots of money.
MPANGA, KABUSHENGA RESPOND
Mpanga: “Robert [Kabushenga] is a very good friend of mine and he, Aga Sekalala and I meet regularly for a chat and drink of tea.Our relationship is part mutual mentorship, part networking and part informed debate. Sudhir is mistaken to believe that we met to talk about him.”
Kabushenga :“This particular evening we chatted from 9:00pm to midnight. Our reporters learnt from court that on Friday that a suit had been filed and that summons had been issued.”
