DPC Kirumira Arrested Over Resignation Remarks

Buyende District Police Commander ASP Muhammad Kirumira has Thursday morning been arrested by Police Flying Squad at home in Bulenga, Wakiso District.

This follows his Wednesday remarks about retiring from Police.

The officer also granted interviews to various media houses, something Police Spokesperson SSP Emilian Kayima described as an act of gross indiscipline.

Kirumira locked himself inside his house and demanded that the officers to present a warrant for his arrest.

Flying squad officers would later cut the door to his house and arrest him.

Kirumira was last week arraigned before police tribunal at Police Headquarters in Naguru and charged with torture, extortion, corruption, bribery, unlawful arrests and excessive use of authority, offences he allegedly committed while in-charge of Nansana Police Station in Wakiso District and Old Kampala as DPC in the years 2013 and 2014 respectively before he was posted to Buyende in June 2016.

Kirumira denied the charges in a post via Facebook, describing them as “old framed up charges the police has persistently kept on looking at me as criminal”.

His case hearing was set for this morning (Thursday February 1, 2018).
