Police Summons Anite, Kateshumwa Over Illegal Campaign Processions

Minister of State for Investment and Privatization Evelyn Anite and former URA commissioner Dickson Kateshumbwa will have to explain to the police on allegations that they held processions and unlawful assemblies over the weekend.

The two have been summoned by the police. Dicksons will have to appear at Rwizi Territorial Police headquarters while Anite has been summoned to appear at the Criminal Investigations Department in Kibuli.

According to police spokesperson, Fred Enanga, politicians who have flouted the guidelines on Covid 19 will all be summoned.

“Despite the Electoral commission issuing clear guidelines in line with the Ministry of Health Standard Operating Procedures set to limit the spread of Covid19, most of the politicians ignored them and went on mobilize and rally their supporters into holding processions and rallies that were illegal,”Enanga said on Monday

According to Enanga, NRM and NUP politicians have taken the lead in flouting the guidelines.

“Politicians from these two parties organized supporters ranging from hundreds and others thousands and the majority were not adhering to the Covid19 precaution measures,” Enanga said

“They were shouting and chanting on top of their voices which is very dangerous in this period of corona virus and there was total disregard of social distancing as some were seen even hugging.”

The public has been warned to desist from such risky gatherings.
