President Yoweri Museveni has met with a Turkish delegation led by Professor Dr. Mete Korkut Gilmen from Cukurova University who are seeking to establish a partnership with Mbarara University of Science Technology and the Uganda Police in the areas forensic studies and irrigation.

During the meeting that took place this afternoon at State House, President Museveni told the Turkish delegation to send forensic teachers from Turkey to Mbarara University of Science and Technology who, he said, would help in equipping students with the knowledge of the new forensic course and increase on capacity building.

He also encouraged them to use Makerere University to reinforce the research on irrigation since Mbarara University of Science and Technology does not teach agriculture.

“All irrigation machines must be manufactured from Uganda. We don’t want to spend money buying from other countries. Those coming to work with us in this area of irrigation must know and follow this direction,” he emphasized.

Mr. Museveni added the Uganda Police, in partnerships with Tip Top Group, should build a National Forensic Police Center for practical forensic analysis to aid in homicide cases.

According to Professor Mete Korkut of the Department of Forensic Medicine and Sciences, the Turkish University would like to start the student and teacher exchange programmes and increase the number of Turkish scholarships to Ugandan students in forensic studies the levels Undergraduate, Masters’ and PHD degree levels.

President Museveni advised them work with the Ministry of Education and Sports so that some students would use Turkish scholarships. He, however, noted that training students in Uganda would be of greater advantage because very many would be able to benefit from that arrangement.
