Ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party has fired over 400 staff at their party headquarters located at Plot 10 Kyadondo Road, Nakasero and at district level.
The staff received termination letters dated February 20th 2018, which stated that the reason for they were being laid off “is the long overdue restructuring exercise which is aimed at formalizing operations specifically human resource at the NRM”.
The same letter notifies staff that termination takes effect on 20th April 2018.
NRM Secretary General Kasule Lumumba while speaking at the party’s headquarters in Kampala confirmed that all staff has been laid off.
“We have issues with payments, this is a restructuring process. We are laying off 132 administrative secretaries at the District level, assistant secretaries and 157 staff members at the headquarters,” she said.
Lumumba affirmed that all staff will be paid their arrears.
“They will also continue working with us for the next two months as required by the law,” she also noted.
Lumumba clarified that the offices of; Secretary General, Electoral Commission, Legal, Director of Finance, Treasurer and Deputy Treasurer are not affected by the restructure.
