If you thought that controversial Makerere University researcher Dr Stella Nyanzi was only good at fighting for her rights and being a voice to the voiceless, then you might be surprised to learn that she is a “good dancer”, at least judging by her age – and also considering how draining academic work can be.
Stella Nyanzi, the “big-hearted” activist, is nowadays providing sanitary towels to school girls after government said it had no money to do so as it had pledged.
Sunday March 26 saw an event to collect funds and pads to help school girls not skip school while “they make a trip to the moon”. Dubbed “Music Benefit to fundraise for the #Pads4GirlsUg”, the event was held Ice Breakers Uganda (IBU) Resource Centre and graced by performances from TUK Band 256.
Excited by the live band performance, Dr Nyanzi took to the floor and showed the audience “what she got”, and danced to the music.
Pulling off go-down-low dance strokes, Nyanzi demonstrated to young girls how to stay happy and in school even when “they have made those bloody trips to the moon” just like the campaign’s theme song says: , thus: “I have a pad, I put it here, I pepeya.”
