Kenya has confirmed that a woman who traveled into the country from the US has tested positive for coronavirus.
Health Minister Mutahi Kagwe said the patient arrived in the country on 5 March but was given a positive diagnosis on 12 March.
She had traveled from the US and transited in London, without leaving the airport, and was confirmed positive by Kenya’s national influenza laboratory.
The minister said the patient was stable and “eating”, adding that her fever had gone down but she will be kept in isolation until she tests negative.
“Ministry of health has confirmed the first coronavirus case in Kenya. The Kenyan citizen returning from the US to Nairobi via London on 5th March. She was confirmed positive by the national influenza lab. However, the patient is stable,” Kenya’s Health Minister Mutahi Kagwe told journalists on Friday.
