Twenty Two Drown in Lake Albert

About 22 people have been reported dead at Lake Albert after they drowned in Lake Albert in a period of one week, according to Fred Enanga, the police mouthpiece.

“Preliminary Police findings indicate that; incidents of death by drowning of travellers on Lake Albert are due to violent waves caused by bad weather,” Enanga said in a press statement at the Uganda Media Center.

“At Sebagoro landing site in Kabwoya, Kikuube district, three people died when the boat they were travelling on capsized on Lake Albert,” Enanga added.

Last week, a boat carrying 19 passengers, all residents of Mbegu landing site in Buseruka sub-county, in Hoima district capsized and killed 16 people. Only three people among the 19 survived. They were on a return journey from the Democratic Republic of Congo according to the police spokesperson.

This website has learnt that police is still at the lake trying to retrieve the body’s that drowned in the waters.
