Former Presidential candidate Robert Ssentamu Kyagulanyi famously known as Bobi Wine has called upon Ugandans to hit the streets and peacefully demonstrate against what he called massive rigging of presidential elections.
Bobi Wine who came second to President Yoweri Museveni in the January 2021 elections claims that according to Declaration of Results forms from his agents, he won the Presidential election by 54.19%.
He made this claim on Tuesday morning while addressing journalists at the National Unity Platform – NUP offices in Kamwokya, Kampala.
At the Press Conference, the musician turned politician paraded tens of box files which he said contained over 20,000 Declaration Forms supporting his victory in the January 14th elections.
Bobi Wine’s declaration of protests comes days after the withdrawal of a petition in which he was challenging Museveni’s victory before the Supreme Court.
He said that the institution (Supreme Court) that was supposed to redeem his victory decided to operate in favour of Museveni by rejecting over 200 affidavits hence their decision to withdraw the election petition.
“We went to court not that we trusted the Museveni Judges but because we trusted the laws,” he said.
“We are nonviolent citizens. We are going to demand for our win through all possible means within our constitution. I therefore call upon Ugandans to hold peaceful demonstrations by matching to their respective district headquarters and demand for answers,” he added.
Earlier, Police had warned against planned riots starting with the Kampala metropolitan area and that they would later spread across the country.
Police is yet to respond to Bobi Wine’s call.
