SPLA-IO rebels on Tuesday exchanged fire with government troops and briefly captured Korgulu area in Yei River State after.
The rebels are loyal to sacked clashes First Vice President Riek Machar.
Yei River State governor David Moses Lokonga told reporters on Tuesday that six government soldiers had sustained injuries.
Lokonga added that the injured had been flown to Juba for medical treatment.
He was however cagey on the number of soldiers that were killed in the clash.
Reports also indicate that locals had mistaken sporadic gunshots for SPLA Day celebrations.
But it was later realised that Machar’s rebels had attacked Kagelu.
It was at this point that the army swung into action, repulsing the attackers.
