The office of the dean of students of Makerere University has summoned Rebecca Naddamba over a picture in which she reportedly appeared semi-nude at a finalists’ dinner at Fairway Hotel in Kampala.
Naddamba is a final year evening student pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Education degree under Registration number 14/U/10794/EVE.
Dean of students Cyriaco Kabagambe has written to Naddamba in a letter dated May 30, and copied to the vice chancellor and his two deputies, university secretary and academic registrar, university spokesperson and chief security officer, the principal of the College of Education and External Studies, and the dean of School of Education.
Kabagambe has directed Naddamba to “show cause why you should not be presented to the University Students’ Disciplinary Committee” for dressing “in a red top and red long robe-like skirt but cut into many small strips that exposed part of [your] nakedness”.
The dean also reminds Naddamba that her dress code violated University Regulation 8 (2) (d) that requires students to respect themselves and behave in a manner that will not bring themselves or the university disrepute.
She now has up to June 02 to submit her reply to Room 208 of Senate Building “without fail, to guide the next course of action”.
