Trade Minister Amelia Kyambade to Address Public on Hiked Prices

The Minister of trade in Uganda, Honourable Amelia Kyamadde is today afternoon 26th March 2020 expected to address the nation on the issue of hiking prices by traders because of coronavirus pandemic.

The Minister says government is going to take stringent measures to deal with the traders taking advantage of the situation.

It should be noted that traders in and around the capital Kampala have hiked the prices of commodities such as sanitizer, surgical masks, sugar, salt, among others.

While addressing the nation on Wednesday at State House, Nakasero, the President Museveni responded to this issue by referring the traders who were engaging in such acts as crooks. The president wondered why the traders were raising the prices of commodities.” What has changed?” he questioned

“I want to warn those people that I will send spies and if I find anybody hiking prices of food I will cancel his or her licence. You are crooks. What has happened to make the prices go up? What has changed to make things expensive,”he said.
