FDC’s Kato Elected Makerere 83rd Guild President

The candidate for the opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) was Friday declared winner of the guild presidential election held at Makerere University.

Paul Kato garnered 4,946 votes to beat closest challenger Abdu Kareem Zilitwawula who polled 4,097 according to results announced by University Electoral Commission Chairperson Isaac Otuko.

Kato, a second year Bachelor of Arts with Education student, will now become the 83rd guild leader of the country’s oldest and largest higher learning institution.

Outgoing guild president Roy Ssemboga has congratulated Kato.

“I congratulate Mr Kato Paul upon being elected the 83rd guild president of Makerere University,” he wrote on Facebook, adding that a transition process was underway.
