South Sudanese Refugee Dies in Kenyan Prison

A South Sudanese refugee man was confirmed dead at a prison facility in Lodwar Town of Turkana County in Kenya.

A family member reportedly told Radio Tamazuj that the late identified as Simon Uyowa Wilson died in the prison last week while serving a jail term for raping a 3-year old girl.

According to the South Sudanese radio, Magdaline Awar, the deceased’s mother said her son was arrested in May by Kenyan authorities after he was accused of raping a 3-year old child.

He was then transferred from Kakuma Refugee Camp to Lodwar Prison.

“The Kenyan authorities told me that my son died on Thursday, and we went with my family from Kakuma Camp to pick up his body and we buried him on Saturday,” Awar said.

The late Simon was a musician in Kakuma and was popularly known by his fans as AK Man. The family said they will conduct thorough investigations to ascertain the cause of death.
